Buried Hopes

Buried Hopes

She was just a simple seed choking on soil,

Waiting to see daylight at last,

Praying on each tear that fell to the dirt,

That maybe the darkness would pass.

After what felt like years that submerged into the oblivion,

She finally felt the sun’s soft embrace,

As the beautiful warmth and love in the world,

Shone down and dried the tears from her face.

But then she noticed the other roses blooming around her,

And only saw herself as a coiled grey weed,

And she slowly learned to normalise the internal hate,

And grew sick from her undying greed

She thought seeing the elegant beauty around her,

Would make her love the world so much more,

But when you think you’re hideous compared to everyone else,

It’s just another reason to become insecure.

So again her wish was granted,

And wonderful petals had grown,

But she watched in sadness and envy,

As brand-new seeds were sown.

After decades of constantly wishing for more,

She felt she’d rushed through her precious years

She’d constantly been trying to fit into society,

And find an answer to her inconsolable tears

And even though she finally  looked the way she’d desired,

Her dreams were still so far,

And then she knew the only way to truly be happy,

Is to be grateful for the person you are.
