Living in a simulation

Living in a simulation

The euphonious sounds of nature,

became high-pitched spasms of glitchy crackles,

Even if I walked just a step out of line,

I was yanked back by invisible shackles.

Of course I woke up early this morning,

And once the effervescent pixels had subsided,

I noticed a complex series of convoluted wires,

Plugged into a 2D sky that looked slightly lopsided.

I wondered if I was living in a strange simulation,

Or some artificial intelligence-controlled dimension,

Because everything was replaced with cables and wires,

As though the world had undergone a technological reinvention.

So I checked my reflection in the mirror,

And traced the mask-like outline of my face,

Until I found wire seams sewn into my scalp,

Holding my fake-looking features in place.

My fingers slowly peeled off my rubber-skin,

And what I saw might make you scream,

My reflection was a glitching metal robot,

And I’m watching you from inside this screen.
